This n That – Diane Harriman

Love is in the air and December 7, 2008 was a special day for some MYC members.  Howard Chamberlin and Becky Good were visiting Vicki and Bob LaScala for a long weekend in Vail when Howard proposed.  He put a red rose on the table and poured her a glass of wine before dinner.  As she sat down, he said to her that red roses meant "love" but diamonds were forever and he slid a box across the table containing a gorgeous diamond ring.   We had a great weekend together skiing, dining out with the group and shopping with the girls.  Howard and Becky are like a couple of young kids in love – when she left town, she turned down his bed and left a chocolate on the pillow.

Jessie Clagett was not in the mood to go snowboarding again because she had already been Friday and Saturday but Andy Lebron talked her in to heading up to Keystone for a few runs.  Then he "missed the turn" and ended up driving to scenic Lake Dillon where they had enjoyed hiking last summer.  Andy pulled over so they could get out and take a picture because it was so beautiful.  When Jessie got out of the car, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.  Greg and Merilee Clagett knew the news was coming sometime as Andy had called Greg before Thanksgiving.  When Jessie called home, they suggested a double wedding with her sister Lindsay, who is getting married in the spring, but Jessie only laughed and said she thought that date was taken. She and Andy are thinking a Fall wedding in Colorado would be just beautiful.

Now that you know the married news,  I would like to announce that two more happy couples are having babies.  Jeff and I have two more grand children coming which means that Russ and Carolee Atha have two more GREAT grand children coming.  Here is the cool thing, both are due at the same time and that would be around the 4th of July.  Heather and Chris Palmer are expecting their third baby to make Olivia and Jack the big sister and brother.  Jiffer and Jamie Harriman will be expecting a little brother or sister for Penelope.  When Heather had Jack, Sarah Frashier had Tye on the same day and they didn't even have the same due date.  So speculation is on with Heather and Jamie because they have the same due date!  Mike and Wendy (Harriman) Erwin didn't want to miss out on parenting so they got another dog.  Mable is her name and she is a Bernise Mountain Dog who gains about 10 pounds a month.

Thanksgiving came early for the Hokanson family.   Danin Suzanne Hokanson was born November 25 and weighed in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces, 20 inches long.  Duffy, Nikki and big sister, Sheridan are all doing well.  Of course Jeanne and Dave claimed that they are NOT prejudiced at all but said Danin is absolutely beautiful with a pretty and petite little face.  I saw her at the MYC children's Christmas party and she sure is adorable as were all the other toddlers and kids there watching the marionette production.

Bob Cantrell and Beth Randall headed to Chicago for Thanksgiving to spend the weekend with Beth's family.  Before they left, they had an early celebration of Wink Cantrell's birthday with a turkey and all the fixings.  Russ and Carolee Atha were honored to be a part of that celebration.  Russell and Wink have been friends since the early 1930's.

I guess the Christmas light ceremony at City Hall was fabulous with all the gold lights…for a few minutes until the circuits busted and there was a black out.  Good thing Santa was there, singers were there and cookies and good friends to keep the party jolly.

Official judges went out to look at the Lotawana lights. Nine homes entered the contest but lots of others had decorated as well.  It was a freezing cold night so the judges had to keep warm with bourbon and blankets.  Now I am in Colorado, but I heard from Linda Frashier that Randy and Karen Coker had flashing lights to music and it was awesome.  Doc Tillema had his magical three sailboats all lit up looking like they are floating down the Lake.  Jack Schwindler has done a fabulous job turning The Marina in to a wonderland.  Ken Frashier decorated what Linda calls the Old Red Wench (sailboat), but he was a judge so he didn't get a prize.  But now we know who was drinking bourbon as he judged!

Roger and Carol Roberts have already been to the warm beaches of Florida and have come back to the deep feeze. Jeff and I have been skiing in Beaver Creek and came home for the Christmas Holiday time.  Cooleys went to Florida.  Martins either went or are going for a couple of weeks sometime.  Falkenbergs are heading to Florida.  Pambechy's spend the winters in Bonita Springs, Florida.  Bob and Vicki are down there somewhere.  I think they may get together more in Florida than they do at the lake- maybe it is because no one has to fix a dock, a boat or work in the yard.  It is good to learn to relax!
